Bethesda Game Studios developed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, an open-world action RPG game. Its initial release took place in 2011 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms. The immersive game is set within the vast and enchanting fantasy realm of Tamriel. Specifically, it unfolds in the province of Skyrim, where players assume the role of a remarkable protagonist known as the Dragonborn. This unique individual possesses the extraordinary capability to absorb the souls of dragons and harness their formidable powers for personal use.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has garnered extensive critical acclaim due to its expansive open world, immersive gameplay, and captivating storytelling. Even if players have not experienced the game yet, they can still appreciate the fascinating narrative of The Elder Scrolls series. Additionally, Bethesda expanded the franchise with The Elder Scrolls: Blades, a mobile game that has gained significant popularity with over 5 million downloads and counting.

How To Get Married in Skyrim

One of the standout features in Skyrim is the intriguing side-quest called “The Bonds of Matrimony,” which allows players to actually get married within the game. This unique aspect adds an extra layer of depth and interest to the gameplay. Amidst battles against demons and dragons, engaging in side-quests can provide a refreshing break for players. Getting married in the game offers its own advantages, and for those who are ready to embark on this virtual journey, a helpful guide proves invaluable.

Skyrim: First Step To Getting Married

To enter the realm of matrimony in Skyrim, one must seek out Maramal in Riften. This character will enlighten you about the Amulet of Mara, a sacred symbol representing the goddess of love. Acquiring this amulet involves a small fee of 200 coins from Maramal or the possibility of finding it as random loot. If you already possess an Amulet of Mara before approaching Maramal, there is no need to make a purchase.

Skyrim’s vast world harbors over 60 NPCs who are potential candidates for marriage. However, before taking the plunge, you must first foster a positive relationship with the desired character by completing quests and rendering them favors. Once your bond with them has grown, you can propose marriage by donning the amulet they provided you. If they accept your proposal, you will need to make arrangements for a wedding ceremony. When you express your desire to marry Maramal, he will be delighted, and the wedding ceremony will be scheduled for the following day.

The Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony itself is a relatively straightforward affair in Skyrim, requiring minimal effort from players. Your intended partner will eagerly await your arrival at the Temple of Mara. Upon entering the sacred building with your betrothed, the ceremony will commence with an age-old tradition between the two of you. Maramal, serving as the officiant, will prompt both you and your partner to recite your vows.

Once the heartfelt vows are exchanged, Maramal will pronounce you officially married, marking the culmination of the wedding ceremony. As a married couple in the game, the next step is to decide on a place to establish your shared residence. You have the option to reside in any house you have purchased or to cohabit with your spouse. If you later wish to change your living arrangements, you can do so by selecting the “I’d like us to move somewhere else” dialogue option.

Any Noteworthy Mentions

Marriage in Skyrim

In Skyrim, Aela the Huntress is widely regarded as one of the best NPCs to marry in the game. She can be found in Jorrvaskr, located in Whiterun. To make her a potential spouse, you must join The Companions guild and become a werewolf. Once you have achieved this, you must then complete three specific Companions quests: Blood’s Honor, Purity of Revenge, and Glory of the Dead.

After successfully finishing all three quests and acquiring the Amulet of Mara, you can approach Aela. Convincing her to be your spouse will require a conversation once the quests are completed. Once she agrees, you can proceed with the marriage process. An added benefit of marrying Aela is that she offers free archery training to her spouse. Aside from Aela, other notable candidates for marriage in Skyrim include Vilkas, a skilled warrior within The Companions, and Benor, a tough and confident fighter who can be found in Morthal.
