Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Review

Rogue heroes and bandits from all around the cosmos team together to save the universe from evildoers shaking a leg thanks to an epic soundscape. Who might it be? There is no doubt about it: The Guardians of the Galaxy! Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot are going to show the cosmos that they are worthy of their namesake. Switch your disruptors on havoc and carnage, strapped on your flying shoes, and turn up your walkman; it’s time for the Guardians to go to work.

The Family of F-O-U-R

Designed by Eidos Montréal and released by Square Enix, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is an action-adventure video game featuring RPG elements. Fight as Peter Quill, alias Star-Lord, the self-proclaimed commander of the newly founded Guardians of the Galaxy, in this original journey that stands apart from the MCU and its take on the team. The Guardians find themselves in the heart of a chaotic situation when sent inside the Nova Corps Quarantine Zone on a routine operation. To preserve the universe, Star-Lord needs to unite a band of individuals that don’t always see eye-to-eye, which is a hard assignment for the captain.

They all have their own individual personalities and skills that have been shaped by their prior experiences: Peter Quill, the human-Spartoi cross who battles with the responsibilities of leading the team; the forthright Drax the Destroyer; the traitor of Thanos as well as the universe’s most lethal warrior Gamora; the I’m gonna get that “Arm” Rocket, a pour favorite and cute Groot. In order to preserve the universe from destruction, you’ll need to work together as a squad and have faith in each other.

The Gameplay, and Combat

Their ability to function as a group is what sets the Guardians apart from the competition in warfare. Command Star-powerful Lord’s Elemental Weapons and his jet-propelled shoes to evade, soar throughout the arena, or unleash deadly enhanced strikes. In addition to providing ample firepower, his blasters are capable of switching among elements to give his attacks the appropriate elemental flavor. When juxtaposed to his standard blaster volleys, the destructive powers of Cold, Thunder, Storm, and Plasma are gradually awakened.

Frozen foes are more vulnerable to assaults because of the increased vulnerability they get from the Ice explosion, whereas the Thunderblast surprises them and connects them to nearby adversaries, dealing genuinely startling punishment. The Wind explosion draws an adversary closer to Star-Lord, allowing him to unleash a barrage of jet-powered strikes and kicks. Also, the  Plasma blast is a formidable weapon that incapacitates foes.

Stagger bars or barriers of a given element can protect tougher adversaries from standard assaults and capabilities, allowing them to take very little punishment from the group. They must be broken by shifting to the shield’s material and disrupting it so that its users are exposed for an all-out assault..” Staggering opponents are the same. The adversaries of the Guardians would receive less punishment if the gauge is emptied.

Star Lord’s elemental strikes, or the talents of the other Guardians, that give Stagger harm, are the only ways to top it up. He has three more powers, including a final power that shields him from any impending harm for a short period of time. Despite the fact that Star-Lord has a vast range of abilities that allow him to conquer the battleground, no one can win by themselves.

Chat! Chat! Chat!

While the action sequences in Guardians of the Galaxy are fun and exciting, the conversation between characters is just as enjoyable. You’ll get a chance to chat with many different characters as you travel around the universe. Rocket’s snarky remark, Gamora’s passive-aggressiveness, Drax’s literalness, and Groot’s declaration that he’s always Groot. Quill is doing his best to maintain the gang united at all times. You’ll occasionally be able to participate in the conversation as Peter by selecting one of two alternatives to express your thoughts.

When you’re in the middle of a task, the back-and-forth is fascinating to hear, but you have to remain totally motionless to listen to the whole thing. Exploration or advancing through the levels may start a new discussion, interrupting the current one. Even though the dialogue doesn’t flow naturally, I found myself spending more time just listening to the amusing chat between the characters than I did actually navigating the level. That and the other Guardians are always berating you for venturing out on your own.

During cutscenes, you may also choose dialogue choices, similar to Mass Effect but with fewer possibilities. As the tale develops and the tiers change, these decisions have an influence. Some decisions have a slight influence on the tale, while others have a significant one. They have no bearing on the conclusion, but they have a significant impact on the way others interact with you, as well as the language and difficulty levels.

There are a lot of tiny and huge decisions to be made, thus replaying the game is encouraged. Navigation with Star-visor Lord’s and resource collecting to uncover Star Lord’s bonuses round out this visually spectacular game, which will keep you amused for a long time.

The Final Verdict

This is a brief, but critical, side remark. I used a PS4 to complete the game. Whereas the game looked great and had few flaws in the previous generation, a glitch that lasted for three weeks before it was fixed completely spoiled the experience. You must scan certain things while using Star-visor Lord’s mode in order to go on in the game. Last-generation consoles were unable to use this scan feature, preventing you from moving on in the campaign. Because there was no other way around it, players would be required to swap out their controller. It managed to re-boot the scanner, restoring it to full functionality.

The drawback of this approach was the requirement for a secondary controller. In order to play the game, you needed a second controller. It’s ludicrous that you’d have to spend a lot of money on a gamepad just to play a game. It’s made worse by the fact that the patching process takes three weeks. It has been fixed on PS4 and will no longer be a problem. However, it severely diminished the novelty value during the initial stages. In my opinion, this problem is enough to lower the game’s score to 7 out of 10.
