Steam Deck by Valve is arguably one of the most well-received gaming hardware in a while. Surprisingly, the handheld PC hybrid is also one of Valve’s most successful in-house hardware they have created.
Unfortunately, the handheld came out when the pandemic was still ongoing, and hardware chip shortage was rife. This prompted the Washington-based company to adopt a new system.

To keep up with orders, Valve started a reservation system where people had to reserve their hardware. Once Valve was ready to send over a unit, they’d send it over.
With the pandemic finally lifted and the chip shortage problem slowly improving, Valve changed how they handle the Steam Deck sales. Posted on the official Steam Deck website, people can start ordering their system without pre-reservation. The official description read:
“Starting today, Steam Deck is available without a reservation,” the company tweeted. “Order one now, and we’ll ship it to you now.”
Additionally, Valve said that if it became difficult for them to keep up with the orders, they might bring back the reservation system.
On top of this, the official Steam Docking station is also available to purchase. It costs $89.99 and is used to display the handheld on a TV or monitor. The company also clarified that any USB-C dock is usable with the handheld.
