In 2014, SEGA’s RGG Studios created a spin-off title with characters from Yakuza called Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin. It was a Japan-only PS3 and PS4 action game set during Feudal Japan. The game came out when the Ryu Ga Gotoku series wasn’t mainstream in the West. Naturally, given the demand, it never saw a release outside Japan.
Over the years, with Ryu ga Gotoku growing in popularity, however, the demand for localization became bigger. Finally, years later, SEGA and RGG Studios heard the pleas and revealed one of the titles they were working on.

Like a Dragon: Ishin is a ground-up remake of the 2014 title, bringing the legendary escapades of Ryoma Sakamoto to modern systems. Through a PlayStation Blog post by SEGA, we get some Info regarding the upcoming title.
In Like a Dragon: Ishin, players will use the four combat styles of Ryoma Sakamoto to subdue their enemies. The lethal Swordsman style, the sharpshoot Gunman style, use both Gun and Sword in the Wild Dancer style and the brutal Brawler style. Of course, to top these off, there will be the signature heat actions Ryu Ga Gotoku series is known for.
On top of that, the game is rebuilt on Unreal Engine 4 and not on RGG Studio’s in-house Dragon Engine which they used for Yakuza 2 Kiwami and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. As per the blog, Unreal Engine 4 is helping the team to bring new graphical quality to the game. The engine helped the team to make Like a Dragon: Ishin the most cinematic tale in the studio’s history.
The team promises to share more information in the upcoming months and during the RGG Summit Livestream later today. Check out some stellar screenshots from the upcoming Like a Dragon: Ishin.
Like a Dragon: Ishin will launch worldwide for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on February 2023. Check out the trailer down below.
