In case you missed it, there was a Nintendo Direct this Thursday(10th February) at 3:30 am (2 pm PT ) ( yes yes who stays up till 3 just to watch it, I DID and a lot of other people as well ) and boy do I have a lot to talk about! People had expectations, predictions on what games were going to be shown today. Hell, they even made a bingo on it just because they could.

Here’s what was revealed in the Nintendo Direct February 2022 stream.

DISCLAIMER: Obviously there are a FEW games I have never played nor heard of until today so there’s not gonna be much information on those but I will try. Apologies in advance.

(PS: Before you ask. No, there was no Silksong update in this direct)

Nintendo Direct 2022 Updates

1. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (Announcement)

Fire Emblem Warriors Returns with a new title: Three hopes.

Set in the same timeline however a different story from the original Fire Emblem: Three Houses, play as Byleth, Edelgarde, Dmitri, and Claude in this Musou (Dynasty Warriors) Based combat. Hack and Slash your way and lead your troops to victory against an unknown adversary and secure a brighter future for Fódlan.

2. Advance Wars 1+2: Reboot Camp (Announcement + Update)

The turn-based strategy combat Advance wars 1 and 2 makes a return as a remake or “Reboot Camp” for the Nintendo Switch with better visuals, vibrant colors, voice acting, and new features.

Like fast-forwarding combat sequences, resetting turns to undo mistakes, Taking on challenge maps outside the campaign, making custom maps, and sharing it with the world and Local and Online multiplayer battles.

Advance wars are really engaging but also very underrated. Its last iteration was on the Nintendo DS. Did you Guys know the Indie Game Wargroove was actually based on the Original Advance Wars gameplay?

I recommend checking the game out.

3. Mario Strikers Battle League (Announcement)

The Better FIFA Has arrived!! Mario strikers make an epic return with the addition of Battle League on the Nintendo Switch.

Play as your favorite Mario characters and tackle, dribble and shoot your way to victory in this 5v5 soccer/football game. Equip Better gear as you progress to improve your status. Make proper use of your items and your ultimate move the “Hyper Strike” and dominate your way to victory.

Go Local up to 8 players in a 4v4 against your friends on a single console. The online play received an Online club mode where up to 20 people can join and compete against other clubs for placements in rankings worldwide.

Arrives on the Nintendo Switch on June 10th, 2022. Preorders are up for those interested in the E-shop.

4. Splatoon 3: Salmon run The Next Wave (Announcement + Update)

Splatoon is a shooter game where players compete in a 4v4 Turf war against other players online by covering the entire place in colored ink respective to their team’s color.

Set in the Splatlands, a sun-scorched desert inhabited by battle-hardened inklings and octolings. with new moves, new enemies, and fresh new fashion, splat your way to victory.

In story mode, Join Agent 3 in a fight against the evil Octarian army, Uncover the secrets of the Alterna, the Fuzzy Ooze, and how they connect to the Mode’s Theme “Return of the Mammalians”

With Splatoon 3’s newest Iteration of Salmon run: Fend off against waves of dangerous Salmonid bosses with fresh new features, new stages, new maneuvers, and new weapons.

Splatoon 3 is set to launch this Summer 2022

5. Front Mission 1st Remake (Announcement + Gameplay) And Front Mission 2nd Remake (In Development)

Front Mission 1st is a tactical RPG set in 2090 taking place on a fictional Pacific Ocean Island called Huffman Island where war has taken place to seize control of the island split into two halves each under the control of the USN (the United States of the New Continent ) and the OCU ( The Oceania Cooperative Union ).

Take control of the Mechanical Units called Vanzers and lead the battalion to victory.

Coming to the Nintendo Switch this Summer 2022. and Front Mission 2nd is still in development.

6. Disney Speedstorm (Announcement)

Created by Gameloft, the creators of the Asphalt series. Disney has announced Speedstorm, a free-to-play Racing game featuring favorites from the Disney and Pixar Series like Mickey Mouse, Mulan, Sullivan, Donald Duck, and Captain Jack Sparrow. With vibrant and cool-looking tracks, the game looks amazing. Each racer has special abilities that can affect the outcome of the race.

Speedstorm will be adding seasons regularly bringing more exciting Disney and Pixar characters, circuits, cars, and more stuff. The game has cross-platform features, a split-screen for local PVP and online multiplayer modes.

One wonders whether this game will be a contender for Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Square Enix’s Chocobo GP. But either way, the game looks visually nice and the tracks look amazing to race on.

7. Kirby and The Forgotten Land (Announcement + Gameplay/new reveal)

KIRBY HAS AN OPEN-WORLD 3D GAME NOW!!! *Insert R2D2 Scream* Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the First Open world 3D Kirby game since Kirby Star Allies for the Nintendo Switch. While Star allies were 3d it was a Side-scrolling Platformer most of the time. Unless you count Kirby Air Ride for the Nintendo Gamecube, but that’s a racing game so probably not.

The Forgotten Land is set in what seems to look like a post-apocalyptic world with a mix of nature and civilization. Our Pink Puffball sets off on an adventure as he Jumps, Flies, Slides, Inhale, and Copies his way through the land to rescue the Waddle Dees from an unknown enemy calling themselves the “Beast Pack”

With a new ability in Kirby’s set of skills called “Mouthful mode” Kirby can do even more things like becoming a Car, a Vending Machine, a Traffic Cone, a Giant Water Balloon, a Scissor lift, a Giant Ring, a Glider and a LIGHTBULB of all things to light his way in the dark.

Use the Inhale ability to absorb your enemy and throw them into things, Certain enemies can be absorbed and can be used as a Copy ability. Like Drill, Cut, Fire, Ice, Sword. each with their evolutions as you unlock them in the new Settlement “Waddle Dee Town” and improve the town by rescuing more Waddle Dees, improving resource acquirement.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land Launches on the Nintendo Switch on March 25. Preorders are up on the E-Shop.

8. MLB The Show 22 (Announcement + Gameplay)

Experience faster, deeper, and more intense moment-to-moment match action on the field, with a variety of game modes for all you rookie players and returning seasoned vets.

For the First time ever, MLB The Show is making its way on the Nintendo switch. MLB or Major League Baseball for those who don’t know is a professional baseball organization and the oldest pro. sports league in the world.

It is a Baseball Simulator I assume sort of like FIFA where the player takes control of one of the 30 major league teams in any game mode (Except Road to the show campaign which is like an RPG experience) and uses the selected team in gameplay.

MLB The Show 22 Launches April 5th on the Nintendo Switch. Preorders are available.

9. Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece collection for Cloud (Announcement)

Kingdom Hearts is an Action RPG set in a world where characters from the Disney Universe and Final Fantasy Universe meet.

*Honest thoughts* As much as I’m happy that Kingdom Hearts is now on the Switch, I’m not really happy about the bit that it’s a cloud version. If you do want to experience the game I recommend checking the Xbox Game pass Or the Epic games Store versions of it. They aren’t the Cloud versions so you won’t suffer latency issues and connection errors.

10. Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series (Announcement)

A Playstation 1 and 2 Classic makes a return.

Klonoa is a Side-scrolling 3D Platforming game with puzzles and adventure gameplay. Its last iteration was on the Nintendo Wii with the Remake of Klonoa 1: Door to Phantomile in 2008.

Join Klonoa, The Dream Traveler. Make new friends and enemies he travels to different worlds and saves them from peril. Run, Jump, Hover and Use your Wind Bullets to Stop enemies on their tracks and throw them to progress and make full use of your surroundings. The world of Klonoa is very vibrant with its story, gameplay, and visuals

With remastered Version of the Wii Version of Door to Phantomile and Lunatea’s tear. Klonoa Phantasy Reverie collection is Bound for the Nintendo Switch and is set to release on July 8th.

11. Portal Companion Collection (Announcement)

Escape the Aperture Science facility as you solve puzzles like a Lab rat and find….. the “Cake”(?). Use the P0rtal gun to your advantage to make your way through lasers, Turret guns, laser bridges, spikes, and a CUBE(?) in chambers made by a Sentient robot hellbent on seeing you suffer through her “tests’.

P0rtal 2 adds in Local Coop and Online Coop along with Splitscreen multiplayer modes

P0rtal 1 and P0rtal 2 make their way to the Nintendo Switch in the Companion Collection this year.

12. Live A Live (Western Release Announcement)

Finally making a Western release after 28 years of being exclusive to Japan, LIVE A LIVE makes it way to the Nintendo Switch with an HD 2D remake and Voice acting.

This classic RPG lets you take on 7 Characters in 7 different scenarios set in different time periods from the Prehistory to the Distant future with more scenarios hidden behind conditions. How the Player tackles them is entirely up to them.

The Original Live a Live was made for the Super Famicom back in 1994. and was never released to the west until today. So to see this classic being brought back is amazing. I really recommend RPG lovers to Check the game out.

13. Nintendo Switch Sports (Announcement + Gameplay)

With 3 recognizable sports like Bowling, Tennis, and Chambara and the newly added 3 sports Volleyball, Soccer, and Badminton. This Iteration also has Motion controls with you being able to attach the Joycon to the Leg-strap accessory on your legs (included with the physical version of Switch Sports)

Switch Sports supports Local Play with family and friends on a single system as well as online play across all sports. Play with your friends online or opt for Random Matchmaking, the more you win the tougher the challenges you face.

With a Free Update on the way that lets you play Soccer shootout mode with Joycons and leg strap accessory and the free Golf Update set to release this fall.

(The game also lets you make your Mii’s (avatar) Playable in Switch Sports though it doesn’t show it in the gameplay except for the showcase done during the Direct.

Nintendo Switch Sports launches April 29th, 2022

14. SD Gundam Battle Alliance (Announcement)

Pilot Mobile Suits and travel the Gundam universe like never seen before with stylish visuals, dynamic battle animations, and impressive effects as players take on challenging cooperative battles in the dynamic action RPG: SD GUNDAM BATTLE ALLIANCE!!

Solve the mystery behind these strange phenomena called “Breaks” that are tampering with the Gundam Universe and prevent them from breaking the timeline from “Mobile Suit Gundam” to “Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans”.

Operate the Mobile Suits and lead a 3 unit Squadron to experience cooperative battles with a multitude of characters and extensive mechanics.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance will be available on the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC Via Steam, and Windows in 2022.

15. Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm festival (Announcement + Gameplay)

Get those Taiko Drums ready and Join Don-Chan and your new guide, Kumokun on a journey to becoming a Taiko Master in the newest Taiko game: Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival for the Nintendo Switch.

Set in Omiko city, the sacred town for Taiko Drums, Drum to lots of bopping beats including Megalovania From Undertale, Gurenge From Demon Slayer/Kimetsu no Yaiba, and Racing into the Night by YOASOBI but that’s not all, the orchestral version of The Legend of Zelda Main Theme also makes its way into taiko.

With a total of 76 songs, Taiko no tatsujin rhythm festival is going to be a satisfying experience for rhythm gamers.

Take advantage of Practice mode to adapt to certain sections of a song to get better at as many times as you like. New modes like DON-Chan Band which lets you play songs with up to 4 people, Great Drum Toy War where you can Taiko against another player and hinder each other.

Drum to your heart’s content when Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival Drums its way to the Nintendo Switch this year. (Additionally, a paid in-game Subscription service will give you access to over 500 songs at game launch)

16. Triangle Strategy (Final Trailer + Demo Release Announcement)

Set in the fictional continent of Norzella, join Seranoa and his Allies as they get engulfed in the conflict among three nations- Glenbrook, Aesfrost, and Hyzante, over the salt and iron that are becoming scarce. The fate of the Nations is dependent on your choices and conviction.

A playable demo all the way to chapter 3 where save data progress can be transferred to the full game is available on the E-shop.

Triangle Strategy is Scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch on March 4th, 2022.

17. Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings (NES & SNES NSO Release Announcement)

EarthBound Beginnings and EarthBound. Also known as Mother 1 and Mother 2 in Japan are finally here on the Nintendo Switch.

In EarthBound Beginnings, follow the journey of Ninten, as he journeys across America using his psychic abilities to collect eight melodies and thwart the plans of an evil race of mind-controlling aliens. Joined by his allies, they encounter many unusual characters and visit strange places before their ultimate fight against the leader of the aliens, Gigue.

In its sequel, EarthBound, follow the journey of Ness, and his allies after he receives a mission from a strange bee-like entity named Buzz-Buzz to collect melodies in a Sound Stone from eight sanctuaries to prevent an invasion from an alien force under the command of Giygas, who has enveloped and consumed the world in hatred, turning animals, humans, and objects into malicious creatures.

EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings are Available on the SNES and NES Nintendo Switch Online today.

18. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Announcement)

Take on the role of Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice and use the devastating powers of the Force and Lightsaber techniques to hunt down Jedi masters on iconic planets. Upgrade your Force abilities and combine them to cause even more devastating combos. Use Button controls or Motion controls Improving on the Nintendo Wii version of The Force Unleashed.

19. Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection (Announcement)

20. Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers Edition (Announcement)

CHRONO CROSS IS BACK! And Better than ever as a remastered version.

Play as Serge, A boy who on a fateful day wandered into an alternate world somewhat mirroring his own. Though the resemblance was similar, he finds that he no longer exists here. What mysteries does this “Other World” have? Travel back and forth between both worlds to unravel the mystery.

26. Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles (Announcement)

DLC updates

1. Cuphead and The Delicious Last Course (Announcement)

The paid DLC to Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, is on its way to the Nintendo Switch.

Explore a brand new Inkwell Isle, with more Action, Bosses who sold their soul to the devil, and their new attacks. And the Introduction of the new playable Character: The Legendary Chalice now known as Ms. Chalice.

Make use of Ms. Chalice’s abilities like double jumps, dodge rolls, and more.

The Delicious Last Course DLC Wallops its way to the Nintendo Switch on June 30th, 2022

2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: Booster Course Pack (Announcement)

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is receiving a paid DLC containing 48 Remastered Tracks From the First Super Mario Kart on the SNES all the way to Mario Kart Tour on the Mobile in the form of the Booster Course Pack.  8 Courses over the span of 6 waves will be released over time all the way till the end of 2023 ALL at the cost of 24.99 US Dollars.

The First wave contains fan-favorite courses such as Coconut mall, Choco Mountain, and Tokyo Blur.

The Booster Course Pack Wave 1 will be released on March 18th, 2022. Preorders are available on the Eshop.

Additionally, NSO subscribers who have opted for the NSO Expansion pack will get this DLC for free along with it.

3. Metroid Dread: Dread Mode & Rookie Mode Difficulty and Boss rush mode (Announcement)

A new free update is on its way to Metroid Dread.

As if it wasn’t hard enough already, the update now adds a One-shot difficulty where even the smallest hit from the smallest thing can end you. All it takes is “one hit”. Are Players up for this new Dreadful challenge?

Additionally, for players new to the Metroid series, the update also adds a Rookie mode Difficulty, with Increased recovery.

The Update is available immediately and is also available on the demo. An additional update dubbed “Boss rush” will be available in April 2022. Players will be able to go on a Killing spree fighting bosses after bosses in this mode.

All I will say is, this is a Great Year for RPG lovers out there.
