Starfield by Bethesda is one of the most hotly anticipated RPG titles in the upcoming months. The next big game by the Elder Scrolls developer will see players going on a journey through various planets and worlds.
While the developers debuted their gameplay in June, information regarding the title has been scarce. However, as the release date slowly creeps in, the studio has started showcasing and sharing information.
In a brand new video, Todd Howard, the director of Starfield, talks about Starfield. Howard mentions how RPGs like Traveller and Sundog inspired the creation of Starfield. He then discusses whether Bethesda considers the title to be hard science fiction or not.

Howard says: “We were really into fuel and how the gravity drive works. And I am reading papers on quantum physics and bending space in front of you. Instead of warping, you twist the space toward you. And so we were playing that and it became very punitive to the player. Your ship would run out of fuel and the game would just stop.
“You just want to get back to what you were doing, so we’ve recently changed it where the fuel in your ship and the grav drive limits how far you could go at once, but it doesn’t run out of fuel. Maybe an update or a mod that allows that, but that’s what we’re doing now.”
He also said that players will get a chance to remove negative character traits by completing questlines. Furthermore, the classic Bethesda-style dialogue system is back for Starfield. Currently, it houses around 250,000 lines of dialogue.
Starfield will launch for PC and Xbox Series X/S in the first half of 2023. Check out the video down below, where we get a sneak peek of the dialogue system.
