In 2005, Japanese arcade developer Dimps created a fighting game called The Rumble Fish 2 for Atomiswave. While not as popular as its 2D counterparts like Street Fighter, The Rumble Fish 2 nurtured a cult status.
Outside of a platform in Japan back in 2012, the game never saw a widespread PC or console release. Fifteen years later, publisher 3goo took it upon themselves to change that, announcing the title’s triumphant return this winter.
The upcoming port for The Rumble Fish 2 is a faithful recreation of the arcade release, featuring the “Smooth Model Animation” system, which allows gorgeous 2D sprite animation on a per-limb basis.
The port will also consist of a host of enhancements and features. Starting with the usual 16:9 widescreen resolution, the game will feature a Practice Mode for players to hone their skills. Furthermore, the title will feature a rollback netcode, allowing smooth, lag-free netplay, and a must in current fighting game releases. Finally, there will be a gallery, which will house artworks, music, and production materials.

The president of 3goo, Nicolas Di Costanzo, in a press release, says that the team at their company wanted to expand on the title by bringing it to current gen systems and features.
The Rumble Fish 2 has been a popular game in Japanese arcades for many years, and tournaments are still occasionally organized by the community. Its longevity speaks to the great work that the developer Dimps’ has done with the game, thanks to their two decades of experience in fighting game design. The Dimps team created extended battle systems and offered players an infinite number of strategies, which is something the community absolutely loves.
Here at 3goo, our mission was to expand on this popular title by bringing it to console platforms and introduce great features the game has to offer to console players, such as online PvP mode and a place to properly learn combos and greatly look forward to its release. We also hope that fans of the franchise will be excited about a few more surprise announcements we will have before the release, so stay tuned!
The Rumble Fish 2 will launch in Winter 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
