After a week of disappointing news about canceled games and another postponement for Skull and Bones, Ubisoft gave fans some good news by reassuring them that Beyond Good and Evil 2 remains in the works. This week’s announcement that the planned pirate-themed game Skull & Bones was being slammed with its sixth deferral indicates that the French business is going through a rough patch. Along with the announcement came word that Ubisoft had shelved not one but three titles in the preceding six months.
Ubisoft also said that revenues of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, as well as Just Dance 2023, fell short of projections, adding to the mounting bad news. The revelation unsurprisingly had a devastating effect on Ubisoft’s stock, sending the share price plunging and making investors anxious. Fans were also concerned that Ubisoft had thrown in the towel on the long-delayed Beyond Good and Evil 2 since there had been no substantial updates on the project in quite some time before the cancellation announcement.
Even while current revelations at Ubisoft may have worried fans, they need not have worried: the studio has provided a brief update saying that work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 continues unabated. “Beyond Good and Evil 2’s development is ongoing, and the company is working tirelessly to execute its lofty promise,” the company’s representative said. Fans will have to remain patient for the time being since that is pretty much where the update stopped.
