The latest recruitment advertisements from CD Projekt Red suggest that co-op will be included in The Witcher: Codename Sirius. After the failure and eventual rebirth of Cyberpunk 2077 headed by The Molasses Flood, CD Projekt Red has been hard at work on many Witcher initiatives, one of which is Sirius.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the last installment in CD Projekt Red’s trilogy set in Andrzej Sapkowski’s universe, and it provided a satisfying climax to Geralt of Rivia’s story. Since then, CD Projekt Red has published the widely praised but commercially disastrous open world fps Cyberpunk 2077 and the highly lauded but commercially disastrous Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. Cyberpunk has been rebuilding its image over the course of many years thanks to updates and an anime adaptation that has been unanimously praised, but CDPR devs are eager to be heading to the Witcher series. Sirius is the codename for one of the works in progress.
Sirius will include “co-op, PvE, a class structure, several gameplay modes, plus social interactions,” according to a Reddit thread started by Awkward96 and based on references to recent job posts at CD Projekt Red. There are other positions vacant for a Senior Combat Director, a Narrative Manager, and a Technical Game Designer, each of which requires the ability to create unique foes, non-linear stories, and dynamically produced systems. Sirius was announced to include multiplayer, and CD Projekt Red has been steadily working on this goal over the last several years.
Speculation in the comments suggested this may pave the way for a game mode similar to The Division but with a greater emphasis on monster-hunting. The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow, both produced by The Molasses Flood, are survivalist, exploring, and crafting simulations. The online co-op mode, included in the latter edition, should promise to be an excellent addition to any group’s time spent with The Witcher.
Sirius is scheduled to be developed by CD Projekt Red, and it won’t be the company’s first foray into the realm of online games. As a result of the success of the slot game featured in The Witcher 3, Gwent: The Witcher Card detour was created and has since held several tournaments. In spite of the disappointing news that no new cards or material will be introduced to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game in 2024, several of the developers have already been relocated to other Witcher projects.
