Years of radio silence and speculated reveals later, Dead Island 2 officially made its comeback this year. The upcoming open-world zombie survival horror is a sequel to Techland’s Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, boasting memorable characters and fun gameplay.
It seems, however, the game requires some more time to cook in the oven. Announced by the parent company Embracer Group, the long-awaited sequel will skip its planned release date. The game will now launch on April 28, 2023, skipping its planned February 3, 2022 release.
The delay is just 12 short weeks and development is on the final straight now. The new release date for Dead Island 2 will be April 28th 2023.#DeadIsland #SeeYouInHELLA pic.twitter.com/Vf1NARTECo

The official Twitter post did acknowledge the irony of delaying the title. They do say that it’s a 12-week delay, with the development reaching the final stages. Dambuster and Deep Silver delayed the title to polish the release build as much as possible.
While the release date delay is unfortunate news, the developers plan to showcase new gameplay footage on December 6 through a new trailer.
Dead Island 2 has interesting development history. While the first two games received a lukewarm reception, Techland would go on to make Dying Light, leaving Deep Silver to take care of the franchise. Later on, Yaegar Studios, the developers of Spec-Ops: The Line, were given the responsibility to create the sequel.
Later, Yaegar were relieved of their duties, putting the game in limbo. Over the years, speculation of the title being in development hell became the talk of the town. Finally, Dambuster, the developers of Homefront: The Revolution, were given the keys to finishing the title.
Dead Island 2 will launch for PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation and Xbox.
