God of War Ragnarok, a PlayStation 4 exclusive, is getting review bombed on Metacritic. This year’s second best-rated videogame, after FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, was God of War: Ragnarok, which was launched last month to stellar reviews. Fans and reviewers alike praised the game upon its release, but it looks to be the target of a review bombing campaign.
In order to lower a game’s overall score on review aggregators like Metacritic, some individuals may intentionally flood the site with bad user reviews. God of War Ragnarok has been blasted with a succession of ridiculous 0/10 rankings, the reverse of what usually happens when individuals try to “review bomb” a product.
Race To GOTY
The review bombing campaign for God of War: Ragnarok has caused the PS5 user rating to drop to 7.9, whereas the PS4 edition is at 6.1. God of War: Ragnarok, by contrast, has a whopping 94 average score from critics. While some critics have pointed out technical difficulties, most appear to have concerns with the game’s narrative emphasis and visuals. Strangely, some of the 0/10 ratings are actually complimenting the title, so it’s hard to tell what’s going on.
The fact that God of War: Ragnarok has been mentioned in many one-star reviews as a possible Game of the Year candidate may help explain why some players have begun rating the game so poorly. It appears that there are some people who would rather have Elden Ring receive The Game Awards’ Game of the Year honor than God of War: Ragnarok this year.
There was a lot of tension during this year’s Game Awards. In addition to the review bombing of God of War: Ragnarok, there has been a heated debate between Genshin Impact versus Sonic Frontiers supporters about who deserves the character’s Voice award.
The situation has escalated to the point that supporters are attacking one other publicly and blaming each other for employing hackers and other dishonest methods to artificially boost their respective teams’ vote totals. The Game Awards presented the live scoring of polling for the Character’s Voice award. However, it’s no longer doing so, likely as a consequence of all the ugliness that has surrounded the field this year.
