The Xbox Bethesda Game Showcase had someone special to announce their project, and it was none other than Hideo Kojima. The industry icon, known for his work in the Metal Gear Solid, and more, announced their partnership plan with Xbox.
The announcement was through a brief video during the showcase last night, where Kojima confirmed the rumours to be true. He said that Kojima Productions is partnering up with Xbox Games Studios for a game he “always wanted to make.”
Kojima said that they are in the early stages of development and that the game will use Microsoft’s cutting-edge technology. He further states that this is a completely new game, and it will be a never-before-seen concept.
There is a game I have always wanted to make. It’s a completely new game, one that no one has ever experienced or seen before. I’ve been waiting very long for the day when I could finally start to create it. With Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud technology and the change in the industry’s trend, it has now become possible to challenge myself to make this never-before-seen concept.
A tweet from Xbox’s official account further confirmed the game uses Microsoft’s cloud service in some capacity (linked down below). Kojima did mention that the game is not yet ready and it will take a while, saying
It may take some time, but I’m looking forward to teaming up with Xbox Game Studios and hope to bring you some exciting news in the future.
Hideo Kojima is well-known for pushing the boundaries in his video games by featuring gameplay elements which blur the thin line between games and reality, so it will be interesting to see how he uses cloud services for the upcoming game.
Xbox Game Studios & Kojima Productions are partnering to create a video game for Xbox like no one has ever experienced before, leveraging the cloud.
