Persona is by far one of the biggest JRPG franchises in the world. The Atlus-developed RPG has become a worldwide phenomenon for its gameplay, characters and music. Part of the reason for this blowup also goes to the fourth and latest entry, Persona 5 Royale. Three of the beloved JRPG games- Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal- are also making their Xbox and PC debut, with Persona 5 Royal currently out.

Naturally, with such tremendous success, the series performed great financially over the years. As per the integrated report 2022 published by parent company SEGA, we get an overview of the performance of the JRPG series. As per the report, the series sold approximately 15.5 million units worldwide over the years. These numbers include game sales, pachislot and pachinko machines, amusement machines and toys.

In comparison with 2021, the series sold a total of 15 million units. Comparing that with this year’s number and we can notice a 5 million units growth. Furthermore, Persona 5 series (including Strikers, Dancing in Starlight and Royal) itself sold 7.22 million units worldwide. This makes up 46.6% of total series sales. Out of this, 77% of the sales come from overseas audiences.

This fiscal year itself, Strikers reached 1.3 million copies sold worldwide as of April 2021 alongside P4G selling 1 million copies on Steam. With such a tremendous success, the company might eye to release more titles on other platforms over the years.

For now, P4G and P3P are preparing for their launch on every platform next year.
