Cyberpunk 2077 is an unfortunate case of overhyping video games and not living up to its expectation. The launch of the title was anything but smooth sailing. The launch of the title suffering from numerous bugs and performance issues. The game also went through the controversy of the developers intentionally holding back the review for PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Naturally, with the game being unplayable on consoles and the PC release being buggy, players shifted to different games. However, the developers have been fixing the title with each patch. Additionally, the long-promised anime by Studio Trigger Cyberpunk Edgerunners was finally released last week to critical acclaim.
With the recent anime performing well and the 1.6 patch for the title released, the game saw a healthy spike in the player base. It was so good that it crossed a hundred thousand peak concurrent player base.
As pointed out by analyst BenjiSales on Twitter, the title clocked in at 104,827 peak all-time concurrent players. In comparison the Witcher 3’s all-time peak clocks in around 103,329 players. This means that two years later, Cyberpunk 2077 has more people trying it on Steam than The Witcher 3’s all-time.
Cyberpunk 2077 just passed the ALL TIME Steam Peak Concurrent Players for The Witcher 3
Cyberpunk: 104,827
The Witcher 3 (all time peak): 103,329Absolutely nuts. Nearly 2 years after launch Cyberpunk has more people playing it right now on Steam than The Witcher 3 has ever had pic.twitter.com/88tarGZibs

Of course, the above number doesn’t include the console player base and is only for Steam. However, it also proves that good supplement content for a title like the anime helps in boosting its popularity.
For now, Cyberpunk 2077 plans on releasing its first expansion Phantom Liberty next year, along with an update with a police system overhaul.
