Hideo Kojima described his as-yet-unannounced project as “strange” in a brief discussion. Since the previous Kojima Productions title had miraculous infants, hidden umbilical cord demons, and odd black precipitation that matures you incredibly quickly, you understand he’s not embellishing when he claims that anything is unique.
Kojima claimed to IGN, “We’re producing one additional odd title in conjunction with DS2 [Death Stranding 2]. The most widely held belief is that this is Overdose, a mysterious game about which we know very little official information but have seen many leaked videos and photographs.
The information we have leads us to believe that Margaret Qualley (Mama from Death Stranding) stars in the upcoming survival game Overdose. Red symbols flashed on display as her figure ran from demonic foes in the released clip. A game-over message pops up as she rushes away from whatever is after her, and the camera focuses on her face.
Definitely Kojima-style strange, and who knows where it’ll go from there. The marketing for this product (presumably Overdose) has been characteristically mysterious, with banners questioning who, where, how, and know why?
According To Hideo
Kojima has the freedom to create such outlandish games since he isn’t responding to any shareholders. “Because Kojima Production is not on the stock market, I don’t feel pressure to maintain a certain rate of growth. All I care about is leaving a legacy of quality, so that’s the mindset I’m adopting as I make games and contemplate expanding into other forms of visual art. Our policy of not working on licensed IP but rather focusing on developing our own will not change.”
Kojima Productions is free to create whatever oddball content it likes indefinitely. Considering Kojima is in charge, it won’t happen for a very long time. Also, Kojima hasn’t made up his mind on whether or not Sam from the video game will appear in the film adaptation of Death Stranding. The news broke last week, but at this point, we don’t know much beyond the fact that Kojima does not wish to follow the pattern of previous video game movie adaptations.
