Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out for most platforms, gaining positive reception. The sequel to 2018’s Modern Warfare and reboot of 2008’s game of the same name, the title’s bringing back some of the fan-favourite characters. While performance issues related to bugs have made the multiplayer experience occasionally frustrating, that has not stopped the game from becoming the most successful release yet.
As per Activision, the game has crossed the $1 billion mark within ten days of its release, making it the fastest-selling title in the franchise. Earlier, the game topped $800 million in sales in the first three days of availability.
The current sales record breaks the previous record by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The 2012’s futuristic sequel to Black Ops took 15 days to reach $1 billion in sales.
Further data by Activision suggests that players spent over 200 million hours playing over 1 billion Modern Warfare 2 matches across PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms in the first ten days.
Additionally, Call of Duty general manager Johanna Faries talked about the success via the press-release.
“The incredible momentum driving Modern Warfare 2 is a direct reflection of the energy and passion of the Call of Duty community,” said Faries. “As we look ahead to an unprecedented level of support for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0’s launch next week, we are motivated to deliver again for the best player community in the world.”
