The Nintendo 64 controller, designed for the Nintendo Switch, is currently available for purchase. During the September 2021 Nintendo Direct event, the company announced the arrival of N64 games on the Nintendo Switch, along with the introduction of a gamepad inspired by the popular third-generation console.

The N64 controller features a recognizable three-pronged design and gray color scheme. It includes a D-Pad, a single analog stick, and a Z-trigger. In addition to these classic elements, modern enhancements have been incorporated, such as a rechargeable battery, USB-C charging compatibility, and additional home and capture buttons.

Nintendo has also included the beloved Rumble Pak add-on for an authentic gaming experience. Despite the controller’s popularity, Nintendo has faced challenges meeting the high demand, causing frustration among fans who have eagerly awaited its availability for almost two years.

Ever since the announcement of N64 games being introduced to the Nintendo Switch, the N64 controller for the console has been in high demand. Fans have eagerly awaited the opportunity to get their hands on this controller, which captures the essence of the 64-bit era. As of now, the N64 controller is available for purchase at a price of $49.99 on the official Nintendo website. However, due to limited stocks, interested buyers can only secure the controller if they have a valid paid subscription.

While the N64 controller is primarily designed for the N64 app on the Nintendo Switch, players have the option to use it with other games as well, including more recent titles. However, due to its one analog stick and six-button layout, users may need to frequently remap the controller to fit the requirements of each game. To fully experience the nostalgic feel, Nintendo recommends sticking to the 64-bit app and enjoying beloved classics like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask.

While the availability of the N64 controller brings excitement, there is some unfortunate news for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. One of the exclusive games offered by the service, Pac-Man 99, will have its servers shut down by October 2023. Despite this, the free-to-play title will still maintain its offline modes for players to enjoy.

The recent restocking of the N64 controller brings the opportunity for a larger number of players to experience classic games like Pokemon Stadium and Super Mario 64 in their authentic form. It remains to be seen whether Nintendo has produced an adequate supply of controllers with this latest update to meet the demands of Switch owners. Additionally, there is anticipation regarding whether more N64 games will be added to the subscription service in the future, offering a wider selection of nostalgic titles for players to enjoy.
