Capcom has announced the release date of Resident Evil Village on PlayStation VR2. The announcement of Resident Evil Village VR took place in June at Sony’s State of Play, when gamers got a sneak peek of Ethan’s encounter with the beloved Lady Dumitrescu.
The highly successful survival horror franchise continued last year with the debut of Resident Evil Village, which picks up immediately after the happenings of RE7: Biohazard. After a brief interlude, gamers are reunited with Ethan Winters as he embarks on a perilous journey to a remote town in search of his missing daughter. It’s no surprise that RE: Village follows in the footsteps of the seventh edition in the series by adopting a first-person viewpoint, a move that was met with widespread acclaim upon its first launch, and that bodes well for the forthcoming virtual reality (VR) upgrade.
When the PlayStation VR2 launches on February 22nd, all RE: Village owners will get this upgrade for free. All of Village’s storyline is included, from the base game to the newly launched Gold Edition. Capcom claims that Sony’s headgear will be used in its entirety. The next appearance from Ethan Winter will utilize 4K HDR displays, eye movements, plus 3D acoustics to provide a truly realistic atmosphere for the audience.
The PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, which will each stand in for one of Ethan’s hands but function separately, will further add to the game’s believability. Players will have the option of using one hand to defend against attackers while using the other to shoot at them. In a similar vein, Capcom will provide the option to use two weapons at once for those who are feeling particularly daring in case the number of adversaries becomes overwhelming.
Gamers would be pleased with the focus that Capcom is placing on Resident Evil Village. The development team returned with the Mercenaries Additional Orders, a more typical third-person perspective, as well as the Shadows of Rose Expansion in the highly-appreciated Resident Evil Village Winters’ Expansion. This downloadable pack sees the main plot continued, this time with an adult Rose Winters almost a decade following the happenings of the original game.
Village’s launch date is just a few weeks before the March 24 premiere of Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 reboot. In the past, this media darling was only available on GameCube, but it has subsequently been transferred to nearly every other gaming system. Like the other remakes before it, RE:4 will be a significant increase in visuals, audio, and mood over the 2005 classic.
