Sony announced the news of the esteemed Sony Interactive Entertainment’s representative director and vice president Masayasy Ito’s departure through a statement on the official SIE website. As per the document, starting October 1, Ito-san will resign from his duties.
To take over his duties, director Lin Tao will look after the representative director duties alongside the vice president role. Kiichiro Urata, the current SVP Head of Japan Asia Partner Development & Relations, will be appointed as the director.

As per Bloomberg Japan, the reason for Ito-san’s resignation is because of his desire to retire.
Ito-san had an illustrious career in Sony Interactive Entertainment. He joined parent company Sony in 1986, moving into SIE in 2000. At that time, he was tasked to design hardware for the PlayStation.
Initially responsible for designing peripherals for the PlayStation 2 and LCD monitors for the PSOne, he was in charge when PSP started development. He helped to design the critically acclaimed Sony handheld gaming system. Later Ito-san would design the PS3 hardware, along with PS4 hardware and software.
