What Did The Post Say
A member called Lachschok on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit stated that Sony has purchased or is in the stages of purchasing UK-based Ballistic Moon, predicated on several job advertisements that were brought to light via the PlayStation Studios Fans Twitter account. Inside just four days, Lachschok’s post had over 200 clicks. Other Redditors commented and speculated on what may have occurred when they saw that the Ballistic Moon job advertisements in the URL given by Lachschok no longer worked.
Either Sony’s purchase of Ballistic Moon doesn’t exist, and the job advertisement was a mistake, or Sony is deliberately keeping the news quiet. Alternately, Sony and Ballistic Moon may form a collaboration with less ownership and more cooperation in the same spirit as companies like Kojima Productions.
Established in 2019 in the South East of England, Ballistic Moon is comprised of ex-Supermassive Games employees who previously worked on titles like Until Dawn as well as Heavy Rain. Earlier this year, Nordisk Games announced that it had bought Supermassive Games. Although no titles have been officially revealed at this moment, the company’s Twitter feed (@ballistic moon) has acknowledged programming with Unreal Engine 5 on unannounced titles. If the company is acquired, Sony may use it as a first-party producer, a second-party creator, or in a supporting capacity, depending on the nature of the projects.
Meanwhile, in the following weeks, PS5 users will receive something more concrete to anticipate. It remains to be seen if Ballistic Moon’s forthcoming project will fall under Sony’s wing, what with the approaching debut of the PlayStation VR2 headgear and plenty more games coming during 2023.
