Steam customers who looked up Mundfish’s Atomic Heart saw the wrong cost due to an obvious pricing issue on the platform. Steam’s listing of Atomic Heart at a cost $20 lower than its retail value caused some confusion, but the issue appears to have been resolved.
Atomic Heart is a first-person shooter where players take on the role of KGB Major Sergei Nechaev, who is psychologically disturbed in this universe’s rendition of the Soviet Union. Following a disastrous test of the cybernetic technology Thought, Sergei finds himself fighting for survival against renegade robots, insane biological inventions, and his own psyche in order to bring some kind of sanity back to Facility 3826. Many people were looking forward to Mundfish’s new title since it was a first-person shooter like BioShock as well as System Shock. Atomic Heart, however, has been met with middling reviews, with Metascores hovering around the mid-70s.
The release of Atomic Heart has not gone according to plan, and there have been reports of problems with the title on a number of different systems. A Reddit member named spooner503 was looking for Atomic Heart on Steam and was surprised to see the game listed at such a low price. This was also the cost listed in Steam’s transactional emails to customers. Sadly, this is incorrect; Atomic Heart can be purchased on Steam for $59.99. The Midas Glove Skin cosmetic item and four more DLC packs for Atomic Heart were included in the pricing that Steam listed.
It seems the problem has been resolved, as the right pricing for Atomic Heart can now be shown on Steam. A Reddit user claims that the season pass was promoted above the title itself when the game was first released. Steam defaulted to displaying the $40 season pass pricing rather than the somewhat higher basic game price.
Strange problems with Atomic Heart appearing across several platforms nowadays are not uncommon. Some Xbox Game Pass subscribers were unable to play through the opening sequence of Atomic Heart because of a glitch. Also promptly fixed, this issue was brought on by either a corrupted download or a failed update. Several Reddit users, nevertheless, appeared to assume that Atomic Heart’s inaccurate pricing listing was a ruse by the makers, despite the fact that the title was only malfunctioning as planned.
