Techland has confirmed that the Dying Light franchise has passed another impressive landmark, with cumulative sales now exceeding 30 million. Developers announced the milestone just around the time they started promoting the forthcoming Dying Light 2 narrative Expansion, which is scheduled to release later this year.
Players praised Techland’s initial Dying Light for its innovative combination of gunfire, mining, and traversal capabilities, which enabled them to easily traverse the game’s expansive open world. The Polish development team followed the launch of the season pass’s value of downloadable content and an improved version of Dying Light with the development of its successor, which arrived in early 2022 with positive reviews from both fans and reviewers.
Techland released a breakdown of its 2022 financial statistics earlier this week, highlighting the series’ ongoing performance with the Dying Light moniker as a highlight. Dying Light 2 spent all of 2021 as the most wanted title on Steam, according to the developers, highlighting not just the franchise’ sustained strength, as seen by the 30 million revenue statistic, but also the series’ continued strength in general. The company also reported on its less successful Call of Juarez franchise, saying that its Wild West projects had sold 5 million copies since their 2006 launch.
It’s possible that the classic Dying Light won’t be the series’ top seller for much longer. Techland had previously said that by the middle of 2022, seven years after its debut, the classic had sold 20 million copies. Because of this, Dying Light 2 was able to break 5 million in purchases within its debut month on the marketplace when it was released in January of last year. According to the latest information provided by the publisher, the game essentially quadrupled that amount during the next year and is currently accountable for roughly one-third of the franchise’s lifetime purchases.
Even though the game has already been out for a while, Dying Light 2 has continued to get a steady stream of updates. Especially considering that Techland isn’t even close to being finished adding new features to its current game. After substantial setbacks, on February 4, the cloud-powered Switch edition of Dying Light 2 will finally be available on the Nintendo eShop. This release comes after many other console ports of the game were canceled.
