World of Warcraft was released in 2004, after its dominant presence of being awarded the title of the greatest MMORPG of all time. Has it lost relevance after its 17 years long dominance to the new and upcoming game introduced in the market on 28th September on 2021 named “New World”.
Amazon games coming with the new game called New world has brought a paradigm shift in the gaming community of MMORPGs. This has brought the sudden movement of the traffic of players to move away from World of warcraft and explore the new world. 5 Main reasons why players are shifting to New World are:-
1. Modern Graphics
In Accordance with many new players, New World has a fresh and more detail-oriented design that helps them get a fully immersive experience of the missions they choose to go to. The graphics in line with sound effects and background environment bring forward the feeling of truly experiencing the effects of the game in real-time.
Just a simple task of collecting materials or farming a mob would feel amazing to you if you are one who is deeply interested in the graphics of the game. Where in the other hand World of warcraft even though getting better with each expansion pack with shining armor and more fluidity in animations, the developers are still limited to the old-style animation and graphics due to the use of old game development engine which has not been mentioned to be changed anytime soon. But this could be good news for people running low-end personal computers and still want to get the experience of gaming.
2. PvP
When New World was released in its Beta, the game was entirely focused on the aspect of the PvP game, but due to a backlash from the community through feedbacks and the company listening to players went ahead and rebalanced the game, which now caters to all type of player need.
In the PvP side of World of Warcraft players get to experience at the basic level in the world PvP, factions going to war, in this a player can tag themselves for PvP and freely fight in the open world.
A similar PvP mechanic can be seen in the New World with the ongoing war between the three factions, with the new updates being able to attack other members while being outside the premise of main cities creating large PvP groups around the controlled fort of the enemy fort.
3. Communication with Devs
World of Warcraft has been blamed several times in the public opinion since the patch where the concept of Gm has been removed and they have been asked to help the community just through tickets moving forward.
In the exact opposite fashion even though the game is just being released they have worked hard to create a more transparent process to resolve and communicate with the gaming community. With blogs being updated constantly and issues being heard actively New world dev has gotten a huge standing within their community.
4. Blizzard Controversy
It was a watershed moment for the community to see how one of the biggest names in the gaming industry has been treating their female employees to the level of harassment where it was to a point where it was said that it was usual for them to face physical and verbal harassment every working day.
The culture was called a “frat house” by the lawyer in the case against Blizzard. This was a moment that lead a lot of people to create an aversion toward the company which could be seen by many streamers boy coting games built by a blizzard.
5. Fresh Content
Since the 17 years of dominance by World of Warcraft in the MMORPG game, gamers have gotten restless by going around the same environment and same mechanics. Even though new expansion packs have come from time to time, Many players have moved to the New World with the excitement of new adventures and more up-to-date graphics with new challenges to come their way still remaining in the same genre of games.
There has been a strong movement between the two games where New World has been flooded with many players mainly from World of Warcraft, this can be said due to either to the controversy that was brought to light, lack of communication from the dev, or maybe due to the fact that new games like New World have adapted to a new technology having better graphics and PvP mechanics helping them attract players from all old school games.
Does this mean the end of the dominant era of World of Warcraft is something only time will tell!
