Xbox and PlayStation are the biggest console makers in the current market. The Microsoft and Sony developed consoles are the age-old competitor to each other, with both companies releasing better iterations over the years. With both consoles well into their two-year-cycle, it seems the console manufacturers have no plans on releasing the next iteration very soon.
This revelation comes in the form of data published on Wednesday, which is a part of the CMA investigation into the Activision Blizzard acquisition. The CMA showed concerns regarding the merger and its effect on PlayStation’s ability to compete in the market.

The regulator said the following: “This impact is likely to be felt especially at the launch of the next generation of consoles, where gamers make fresh decisions about which console to buy.” In response, Xbox clarified that the next generation of consoles is years away. Furthermore, any impact from the deal was highly speculative.
“The Parties [Microsoft and Activision] do not dispute that some portion of gamers is likely to re-assess their console ownership at the start of a new generation,” it wrote. “But they also note that this is an event that only occurs approximately every eight years.
“The next new generation of consoles is not expected to be released before the fall of 2028 at the very earliest.”
This statement clearly distinguishes that neither of the manufacturers has any plans to release new consoles before 2028, How much of this holds is something yet to be seen.
