Turn-based role-playing game Sea of Stars by Sabotage Studio has a demonstration and a solid delivery window. The title was one of many to get updated and announced during Nintendo Direct in February 2023. The rollout for Sea of Stars has been pushed out from its initial June 2022 target. Unfortunately, owing to a number of setbacks, the release date has been pushed back to 2023.
Even though it’s a traditional turn-based RPG, Sea of Stars is really a precursor to Sabotage Studio’s 2008 action-platformer, The Messenger. Both games have their own unique play styles, yet they share a common setting and world as well as several themes, ideas, and locales. The developers of Sea of Stars claim that the game’s dynamic lighting, free-roaming environments, and the compelling plot will render it a must-play for lovers of the category. The popular and important RPG from the 1990s, Chrono Trigger, has inspired some fans to compare Sea of Stars to it a spiritual sequel.
The Sea of Stars concept was demonstrated in the February 2023 Nintendo Direct. The release date of August 29, 2023, was announced with some playtime videos, which showcased the game’s graphical style. It was also announced that a playable demo could be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop in conjunction with the release date.
If you’re looking for a Chrono Trigger fix, the demo may be a nice place to start. There are a few superficial parallels between this title and the one stated above, including the use of comparable visuals, a turn-based combat system, the absence of chance events, and the classification of attacks as abilities.
It’s not through with allusions to Chrono Trigger just yet. Yasunori Mitsuda has joined the team behind Sea of Stars. Mitsuda will lend even more of his expertise to the game’s extremely impressive roster by contributing to the music. As Mitsuda’s major composer for Chrono Trigger, his brilliance will be audible to even the most casual listener. Similar in tone and now sporting a recognizable score, this game has the potential to become a viral sensation on Kickstarter.
Seeing as how Sabotage Studio drew influence for Sea of Stars from a wide variety of ’90s RPGs and oldies, it will be difficult to successfully adapt many of the best clichés from these games to the present day. Fans will have a positive reaction if the game stays true to its inspirations and evokes strong sentiments of nostalgia. The developer can perhaps get more people interested in buying Sea of Stars after seeing the demo.
