Video Games Telling Its Own Stories

Storytelling in which the audience takes on the role of a player is known as “game writing.” Every aspect of the game, from the setting to the players to the regulations, may be used to create a tale. This means that game development is very cooperative, complex, and continuous.

What do game writers do?

Video Games

When it comes to writing for video games, there are a variety of ways in which a game’s narrative might be told. Character bios, storyline themes, and cinematic scripts are some of the most common game writing tasks. The game writer is a critical thinker, creative, and contributor, all at once. They may use a different collection of resources to convey the tale for each project.

It’s possible to have both a chicken and an egg when it comes to gaming narrative. Art, gameplay development, and technical capabilities may all be used to help shape it. Before writing a single word, spend some time getting to know the world you’ve created. This is critical to conveying the tale you want to tell. To have their efforts and ideas taken into account will be much appreciated by the remainder of the team, as it cuts both time and money.

Try These If you’re Yearning for Great Stories

1. Her Story

A videogame in which the player must observe and reorganize imaginary interrogations in order to decide the course of events and the result of a case. These aspects of the narrative are what make the game so effective, and it’s because of these elements that the player is able to create knowledge of the situation as they play.

2. Gone Home

Taking on the role of twenty-one-year-old Kaitlin Greenbriar, the gamer ventures back to her childhood home only to discover it deserted. There is so much going on in the Greenbriar home that it’s hard to keep track of everything that’s going on in the lives of Kaitlin’s younger siblings, Samantha and Yolanda, and how they’ve generated friction in the household.

3. Journey

The journey is a wonderful narrative sans words, telling its tale via scenery, color, music, brief cinematic scenes, and gameplay. The game opens with the protagonist as a hooded person in the midst of a wilderness with a massive mountain in the background. To reach this peak, one must endure a path that is both emotionally gripping and aesthetically pleasing.

I’m the guy you see dancing in the rain in the middle of the night. Pursuing my bachelor’s in literature, I love to read and write and I’m somewhat of a decent storyteller. A die-hard fan of Miyazaki and Murakami and my go-to quote is “The past is a foreign country, we do things differently there”.
