In the future, Apex Legends may include a time-limited Hardcore mode, where there is no UI and treasure is far harder to get by. LTMs are a common feature in the battle royale genre, and Apex Legends is no exception. Given the recent popularity of “battle royale” games, there is undoubtedly room for innovation in the genre of massively multiplayer online games. One potential benefit of Hardcore mode for Apex Legends is that it gives gamers a taste of the game’s most thrilling modes of operation.
As expected, multiplayer games have long had “hardcore” difficulty settings. The recently released (on November 16) Hardcore mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 represents the most notable example. Players’ hp is significantly reduced, there is no UI, and friendly fire is always on in the Hardcore mode’s Tier 1. Considerably like Call of Duty but with a much higher death toll. Even the finest players have trouble with this since it requires more accuracy and caution.
Speculation of an Apex Legends limited-time mode has been confirmed by popular YouTuber Thordansmash. Although Thordansmash doesn’t cite any specific information or proof to back up his point, he does state that a Hardcore battle royale mode is in the works for Apex Legends. It is also unclear when it will start; however, if Thordansmash is to be trusted, Apex Legends players may expect it in the not-too-distant future.
Hardcore modes are notoriously one-of-a-kind, and the reported Hardcore mode in Apex Legends would be no exception. Apex Legends’ Hardcore mode does not equip players with any kind of heads-up display. There’s no indication of whether players’ health has been reduced, but bullets seem more effective than normal. In addition, there will be fewer health kits hidden about the world. As a result, players will avoid situations where they could be shot. They may be reluctant to fire too often since ammunition is likely to be limited as well.
The objective of a Hardcore mode is to make the title more difficult by increasing the frequency and severity of deaths. However, although that may be accurate in certain situations, in others, less is more. For instance, the No Build option of Fortnite, in which the building is disabled, may not have increased the game’s popularity all that much. It will be interesting to watch how gamers of Apex Legends react to a Hardcore option and whether some gamers find that it is preferable to the standard battle royale.
Hardcore mode in Apex Legends is, however, only a rumor at this moment. Nothing has been announced or even hinted at by Respawn Entertainment as of now. If it’s happening, Respawn will reveal more to the public in the following months.
