Gamescom 2023 kicked off with a blast on August 23, 2023. With various games, dropping their titles in the coming week. The event will be taking place from Wednesday, August 23, 2023, to Sunday, August 27 in Cologne, Germany. Geoff Knightley delivered the Opening Night Speech.
With Europe’s biggest gameshow of the year, a lot of lineups were present on Opening Night. Other than today, Xbox will be having a separate presentation and a booth for Gamescom. This article will cover five takeaways you should be aware of from the opening night in case you missed watching the show tonight.

Among the various reveals and announcements, today we will take you over some of the important ones that need addressing:
- Genshin Concert Tour: Known as the Melodies of an Endless Journey, the concert will last from 2023 to 2024. It will take place at 12 different locations across the globe. Some of the places include London, Kuala Lumpur, and New York. Speculations arise, that the concert will take place in Winter 2023.
- Mortal Kombat revealed two new characters: Sindel and General Shao will be joining the MK1 roster as fighters. Motaro was also revealed to be a cameo fighter in the game. Shao is not a Kahn of the Outworld but rather a general under the command of Sindel who seeks more power. Seemingly he will be fighting Raiden and representing Outworld.
- Starfield Live Action Trailer: After a visually vibrant trailer showing the character in Starfield destroying asteroids and traveling across planets, the show was interrupted by a random fan who tried to ask about GTA 6 before being pulled away by security. What followed was an interview with Todd Howard who elucidated the importance of freedom in Starfield.
- Tekken 8 Release Date: Tekken 8, the upcoming Bandai Namco fighting game will be getting a release date of January 26, 2024. The trailer showed, introduced recurring characters such as Dragunov, Shaheen, Steve Fox, and Yoshimitsu. This is not all as Tekken 8 will also be getting an Arcade Quest mode.
- Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty: The most awaited Quality of Life update to an utterly broken game, Phantom Liberty launches on September 26, 2023. It will feature new weapons and a new update to the existing gameplay with an overhaul perk and skills system.
