The player count on Steam of the famous Halo Infinite is decreasing every week and this decrease seems unaffected even after the announcement of the Season 2 update.
With the game’s appreciable visuals and gameplay, Halo Infinite launched with an amazing reception from the fans and got mostly positive reviews from the critics. But since then, the numbers are kept on decreasing which is worrisome for the developers.
The game’s beta version launched on November 2021, the same month as the release of EA’s Battlefield 2042. This created a competitive environment for both the games and very clearly Halo came out as a victor in this tussle with active players of over 250k on the day of launch.
Battlefield and Halo Shares the Same Tragic Fate
Interestingly, this tussle leads an EA official into giving a controversial statement. EA said that the unexpected release of Halo Infinite is the major reason for the bad performance of Battlefield 2042. Later, EA disapproved of this statement and acknowledged the feedback of the fans. But this is quite interesting to see that the latest release of both of these franchises is sharing the same fate, with a significant drop in the number of active players.

Halo Infinite launched with an active number of 256,619 players back in November 2021. But in the last month, the average number of players has dropped to 5,763. For a franchise as huge as Halo, this is a time to rethink its vision and rebuild its reputation. As Halo is still one of the legends in the gaming scene.
Why the Halo Infinite’s player count is decreasing?
A huge number of fans were waiting for the release of Halo Infinite and therefore everything got explored and exploited in the game. And the issues started when the bugs started to show up. The number of complaints on social media started to grow but the updates were slow and ineffective. The fans got fed up with the way that the 343 Industries were handling these issues.
Since its release, the game has received very fewer content updates, which are the key to engaging the players and keeping them interested.
The players are still facing issues like low frame rates which are snatching away the fun from the game. Also, sometimes irritating issues like screen tearing into infinite loading screens, texture stretching bugs, and more show up anytime while playing the game.
Another issue that is responsible for this decrease in the number of active players is the synchronization issue with servers which makes the game unplayable for many PC players. This problem is constant and independent of the hardware, players with powerful hardware and updated drivers are facing the same issue.
One of the major issues is the hackers ruining the game and the inefficient techniques of the 343 Industries to stop these hackers. These hackers are driving the players away. And hence the decrease in the numbers. 343 Industries and Xbox Game Studios should do something about it soon or Halo Infinite might defeat the Battlefield 2042 in the least number of players active.
