Pokemon Scarlet & Violet might’ve received public scrutiny over its various aspects. However, that hasn’t stopped the title from becoming one of the biggest launches for Japanese developer and console maker Nintendo (via VGC).
Nintendo on Wednesday, the Japanese platform holder announced that the sales of the Nintendo Switch exclusive crossed 10 million combined units in the first 72 hours. The worldwide release for the title was on November 18, 2022.
Nintendo said: “This is the highest global sales level for any software on any Nintendo platform within the first three days” On top of this, as per the GfK sales figures (via Gamesindustry), Pokemon Scarlet & Violet sold more boxed copies in the UK during the launch. In comparison, other games barely moved physical copies in the country this year.
The previous highest was by FIFA 23. Pokemon Scarlet & Violet sales were up 4% compared to the EA-published football game. Previously, Pokemon Sun and Moon were the titles that sold more physical copies in its first weekend in the UK.
The title received a warm reception for the usual monster-catching gameplay synonymous with the series. However, it also received criticism for its performance on Nintendo Switch, with numerous bugs and glitches, among other problems plaguing the title.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is out now exclusively on Nintendo Switch consoles.
