Hold on to your capes! Warner Bros. and DC Studios have announced their new duo for the upcoming Superman reboot, “Superman: Legacy.” According to Deadline, the roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane have been filled by David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan respectively, and they are ready to take flight in James Gunn’s fresh take on the superhero franchise.
This casting decision followed an extensive and thorough search that lasted several months. It involved multiple rounds of audition tapes and concluded with an in-person screen test for Gunn and DC Studios’ co-CEO, Peter Safran. The final stage of the process featured a two-day event where actors donned full costumes and makeup to bring Clark Kent and Lois Lane to life.
Among the talented actors who made it to the final round were Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney, Emma Mackey, and Phoebe Dynevor. However, it was Corenswet and Brosnahan who ultimately won over Gunn and Safran with their performances and chemistry.
Fans can look forward to seeing Corenswet step into the iconic red and blue suit as Clark Kent, and Brosnahan will bring her talent and charisma to the role of intrepid reporter Lois Lane. With Gunn at the helm, the stage is set for an exciting new chapter in the Superman franchise, promising a fresh vision and thrilling adventures for these beloved characters.

Confirming the exciting news, Gunn took to Twitter to officially announce the casting of Corenswet and Brosnahan. In his tweet, he expressed his enthusiasm for their selection, highlighting their exceptional acting abilities and praising them as wonderful individuals. It’s clear that Gunn holds both actors in high regard and has confidence in their portrayal of these iconic characters.
Gunn’s involvement in the Superman franchise began last year when he revealed his plans to write a script that explores Clark Kent’s younger days. Shortly after this announcement, Henry Cavill, who previously portrayed Superman in three films directed by Zack Snyder, shared on Instagram that he would not be reprising the role. Cavill gracefully acknowledged the changing of the guard and extended his well wishes to Gunn, Safran, and everyone involved in the new universe they are building.
“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that,” Cavill wrote in an Instagram post. “James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”
In “Superman: Legacy,” David Corenswet will be taking on his first major leading role in a studio film. Known for his performances in television shows like Ryan Murphy’s “Hollywood” and “The Politician,” as well as the indie film “Pearl,” Corenswet is poised to make a mark as the new Clark Kent. Rachel Brosnahan, renowned for her Emmy-winning portrayal of Midge Maisel on Amazon Prime’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” will join him as Lois Lane. Brosnahan is also currently showcasing her talent on Broadway in “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window” alongside Oscar Isaac.
While the roles of Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen are yet to be cast, the film aims to delve into Superman’s journey of reconciling his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing in Smallville, Kansas as Clark Kent. Fans can anticipate a fresh exploration of the beloved superhero’s origins and the challenges he faces in the dual life he leads. “Superman: Legacy” is scheduled for release in theaters on July 11, 2025, promising an exciting new chapter in the Superman franchise.
