Can you play Valorant on Linux?

Valorant is a competitive and tactical first-person shooter where players assume the role of agents with unique abilities. Through the use of diverse kits, they engage in matches, aiming for victory by securing 13 rounds either as the attacking or defending side. Linux, an open-source and lightweight UNIX-based operating system, is the focus of this article. We will delve into the question of whether Valorant can be played on Linux-based systems, exploring compatibility and potential solutions for Linux gamers. Stay tuned to find out if you can enjoy Valorant on your Linux setup.

Will you be able to install Valorant on Linux-based machines?

Riot Games, the developer of Valorant, has made an official release of the game exclusively for Windows machines. This decision stems from various factors, including the widespread usage of Windows among PC users. Linux, on the other hand, has a comparatively smaller user base due to its perceived complexity in comparison to Windows. Consequently, the number of Linux users interested in installing and playing Valorant on their operating system is relatively low. Though disappointing for Linux users, Valorant’s focus on Windows stems from prioritizing the larger player base. As a result, Valorant remains primarily accessible to those running Windows.

In short, Linux users cannot play Valorant as Riot Games, the developer, only officially supports the game on Windows. However, there is a workaround for Linux users who still want to play the game. By setting up a dual boot system on their PC, where both Windows and Linux are installed, it becomes possible to play Valorant. This method requires allocating additional disk space on the computer and entails switching to the Windows operating system each time the player wants to access Valorant.

To play Valorant on Linux through dual booting, the user must restart their computer and choose the Windows OS during each gaming session. This process can be inconvenient and time-consuming, as it interrupts the regular Linux workflow and requires a complete system restart. Additionally, setting up a dual boot system requires technical knowledge and may pose challenges for less experienced users.

Riot might invest in officially releasing Valorant for Linux-based machines if the player base is large enough. Valorant has been getting really popular as of late due to its versatility in gameplay with its agent roles.
